How Pro-Link works

One end sits in the studio and feeds your desk. The other end is whoever you are talking to, wherever they are. Here is the whole setup.

At the studio

  1. 1

    Open Pro-Link in the studio

On the studio machine or a tablet, open the app. Allow the microphone when the browser asks — that is how the audio gets in and out.

  2. 2

    Choose your inputs and outputs

Pick the sound card or interface the desk is wired to, set the gain, and choose how much processing you want holding the level steady.

  3. 3

Take the audio into the desk

Feed the chosen output into a spare channel on your mixer. That channel is now your down the line source, metered on screen as well.

  4. 4

    Note your six digit code

Your device shows its own code. Save your regular reporters as Quick Connect buttons so you can call them with one tap next time.

For your reporter or guest

  1. 1

Open the link you were sent

No download and no account. The address opens the join screen and asks to use the microphone.

  2. 2

    Type the studio's code

Six digits from the studio, or just tap the invite link they messaged you.

  3. 3

    Check your level

Talk normally and watch the meter. Adjust the gain so it sits in the middle, and put headphones on to stop feedback.

  4. 4

    Wait for the green bar

When the bar turns green you are linked at broadcast quality. The studio hears you and can talk back.

Tips from the field

  • Always use headphones at both ends — it stops howl round
  • A wired headset or a proper mic beats a laptop's built-in mic
  • On 4G, stand still for the first few seconds while the link settles
  • Give the reporter the invite link in advance so they can test
  • Keep the app in full screen on tablets and switch keep-awake on
